About Us Adoption Center How Can I Help Resources

Why should you choose to adopt a dog from Underdog ResQ out of the many animal shelters and rescue organizations in the area? First of all, we have great dogs! Second of all, we promise to try our best to make this an enjoyable process. All applications will be responded to promptly, (within 48 hours). Last but not least, adopting a dog that has been in a foster home allows us to tell you more about them. We are able to see how your new dog will adjust to being in a home environment, whether they are truly housebroken, how they respond to commands, where they like to sleep, their eating habits, their favorite toys, whether or not he is good with strangers that come to the home and much more.

Below are pictures and profiles of our available dogs for adoption. We will do our best to keep this page updated. The dogs that are adopted will graduate and be moved to the success stories page.

Please make sure to read the adoption standards before applying for a dog. Complete that adoption application online or print out the pdf application and mail it.

Lola's Story
Meet Lola ---the Love Bug. Found as a stray on the north shore, she's now in a foster home and loving every minute of being a part of a family.

Whoever adopts this sweet puppy will get the best of the deal! She is the most perfect little girl of about 50 pounds. She is already housebroken and crate trained! She knows sit, down, paw, and she will roll over and show you her belly.

Lola will walk 3 miles right by your side or if you feel like sitting on the couch she will sit at your feet. She loves her people and just wants to be near them. She walks great on a leash (no pulling) she loves other dogs.

She likes the car and is willing to go anywhere with you. If you have kids perfect she has energy to spare. She is very respectful of kids and loves to play catch.

Lola can go to a home with male dogs and children. She's a little too interested in cats so a kitty-free home would be best.

Come meet her- she will capture your heart!

Name:  Nala
Breed:  Pit Bull
Age:  1-2 years
Sex:  Female

Nala's Story
This pretty girl is in need of a loving home. Nala is a very friendly 18 month old female Pit Bull Terrier that was placed in an Underdog ResQ foster home at the end of September.

Nala is one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet and greets everybody with a wagging tail and kisses. She loves meeting new people, but she is not a needy dog; she is happy to be by your side and does not need to be all over you.

She was clearly neglected in the past and was all skin-and-bones when admitted to Underdog ResQ. She does, however, have a good appetite and has put on about 25 pounds of healthy weight. She weighs just under 70 pounds and could use a little more weight.

Nala was recently spayed and udated on her shots. She has done well with dogs of all sizes while in foster care. Now that her spay incision has healed she has been able to play with other dogs and she makes a great running partner. Nala will make a great companion for anybody who wants a buddy to run with for a few miles. She walks well on a leash and will sit on command. She loves her dog bed and is being crate-trained, but she does not try to get up on furniture. All-in-all, Nala is a mellow dog who will make a great companion for most people or families. Nala can go to a home with another dog, preferably a male, but she cannot be adopted to a home with cats.

If you would like to make this sweetheart a part of your family, please fill out an Adoption Application for Nala at our website, www.underdogresq.org.

Name:  Lenny
Breed:  Poodle Mix
Age:  4 months
Sex:  Male

Lenny's Story
I am a 4 month old sweet puppy looking for my forever home!

We think I may be a poodle/scottish terrier mix. I'm about 10 pounds and have some growing left to do but I should stay small. I am black in color and have a coat that will need to be groomed.

I will enthusiastically greet you at the door when you come home with a whole body wiggle. I just started crate training and am taking really well to it, and I'm almost fully house broken. I am a smart puppy am an enjoying clicker trianing in my foster home.

I exude energy so I need a family that can keep up! I have great zest for life and would love to go for long walks, run in the yard, and play ball. After play time I want nothing more than to snuggle up on your lap and relax for the night.

I am looking for a home with terrier and puppy experience. I would also like it if you would take me to an obediance class. It would be fun and help teach me what you expect from me.

I am currently being fostered in Boston with 2 adults and a female pit bull. Due to my small size, I would like a home with children over the age of 10.

If you are interested, please complete an application at www.underdogresq.org!

Name:  Joey
Breed:  Chihuahua Mix
Age:  1 year
Sex:  Male

Joey's Story
Hold on to your hearts because I've been known to steal them all! My name is Joey and I am a pure-bred American mutt. I am under a year old but am not expected to grow anymore. I will remain around 15 lbs…unless my foster mommy lets me have my way with those snacks, that is. No one really knows my genetic make-up but people seem to think that I am a Beagle/Chihuahua/Mini Pincher-type mix. Regardless of my gumbo heritage, there's no denying my effortless good looks.

I was found on the street, scared and hungry. Worst of all, I had suffered from a broken rear leg that, without treatment, had healed incorrectly on its own. Luckily, Underdog ResQ could see how special I was; they were determined to help me live the best life possible. Underdog saw to it that I got the medical treatment that I so desperately needed—including an extensive surgery on my leg and hip.

Just because you have the right tools, doesn't mean you know how to use them. I was so young when I broke the leg that I had never learned to walk on it. Hopping around on 3 seemed normal to me, even though my 4th one had been all fixed up. Besides, there was absolutely NO muscle in the leg (my knobby bones were protruding and there was scraping at the joints). After a few weeks, my foster mommy became concerned. She wasn't about to let this pup fall short of his potential so she contacted as many doggy physical therapists as she could find. After many disappointing emails (and many unreturned ones) an amazing lady named AnnBeth Chinchillo contacted her. During the day, AnnBeth does therapy on humans but she helps her furrier friends on the side. When she heard my story, she wanted to do all she could to help.

For over 3 months now, AnnBeth has been devoting hours each week to my rehabilitation. And, at home, my foster mommy helps me do the exercises that AnnBeth teaches us in therapy. I have gained strength and confidence—I even have muscle mass now. While I am much better, I still favor the leg. For this reason, my new mommy or daddy will have to continue working with me. Underdog ResQ has promised to find someone who has the time, patience and heart to devote to my recovery. Keeping up my rehabilitation is crucial to a full recovery. I have come way too far to fall back on old habits.

I am the sweetest and most cuddly foster dog that my foster parents have ever had—and I am number 12! I am talking chocolate fudge ice cream with whipped cream, cherries, sprinkles, and an extra pound of sugar sweet! I will go to all lengths to express my love: You're on the couch? I'll be on top of or at least touching you.
You're in bed? You better believe I'll be balled up at your hip under that blanket.
Want to hold me? Scoop me on up and I will nap with my chin over your shoulder. Simply stated: I LIVE TO LOVE AND SNUGGLE!!!

I am a big fan of other doggies. I love to wrestle and play with my foster brother for hours. We wag our tails and make funny noises together. I would be in heaven in a home with a 4-legged brother or sister. I like cats A LOT too…if you know what I mean. My foster sister is a cat and I am always in her business. She, however, is used to dogs; I would probably terrorize a kitty that wasn’t—all in good fun, of course.

Young people are OK with me. I am very sweet to them and will eagerly give kisses and wags on demand. While I will play happily with younger children all day (supervised), it is recommended that I not live with any. I was alone on the streets for a while where food was scarce. For this reason, I get really afraid when I am cornered with a piece of food (or something that seems like food). I have not bitten anyone but I make it clear that I am distressed. My foster mommy thinks that younger children might not understand this. And, children have a tendency to chase and corner dogs, which would create a very stressful environment for me.

So, there you have it, my whole life story thus far. The next chapter is up to you! Come and meet me. Once I melt contentedly in your arms, you won’t be able to let go.

 Common misconceptions
 before adopting a dog:
1. We’re getting Rex for the kids - they will do all the work.

Maybe for the first week or so, but most kids will slack off soon enough and the responsibility will fall on your laps. You are considered to be the owner because you are over the age of 21. If your kids do not walk Rex, then it is up to you that it gets done. As much as we talk to our kids about responsibility and as much as they agree to care for your new dog, we all know that sooner or later most kids will lose interest or get tired.

If you can positively answer these questions and concerns, then you may be ready to adopt Rex.
