About Us Adoption Center How Can I Help Resources

Why should you choose to adopt a dog from Underdog ResQ out of the many animal shelters and rescue organizations in the area? First of all, we have great dogs! Second of all, we promise to try our best to make this an enjoyable process. All applications will be responded to promptly, (within 48 hours). Last but not least, adopting a dog that has been in a foster home allows us to tell you more about them. We are able to see how your new dog will adjust to being in a home environment, whether they are truly housebroken, how they respond to commands, where they like to sleep, their eating habits, their favorite toys, whether or not he is good with strangers that come to the home and much more.

Below are pictures and profiles of our available dogs for adoption. We will do our best to keep this page updated. The dogs that are adopted will graduate and be moved to the success stories page.

Please make sure to read the adoption standards before applying for a dog. Complete that adoption application online or print out the pdf application and mail it.

Name:  Elsa
Breed:  Staffordshire Terrier
Age:  6-8 months
Sex:  Female

Elsa's Story
Elsa is a 6-8 month old Staffordshire Terrier Mix being fostered in MA. She is about 40 pounds and a doll!

Elsa is 100% puppy comprised of 70% wiggles and 30% kisses (no teeth included!). At only 19 inches tall her paws indicate she probably won’t get much larger. This tiny girl is VERY well behaved for being a puppy, no accidents inside and KNOWS BASIC COMMANDS (and this was written within 3 days of being admitted from a shelter)! She can sit, lay down, walk on a leash without pulling, and give her paw. Now she is learning touch (useful for training dogs how to turn lights off, etc). She is a very fast learner whenever a treat is around ;).

As for potty training this love bug hasn’t had a single accident inside. She loves other dogs of any kind but people are her true passion, she is a marvelous kiss giver and the perfect size for a lap! Elsa is bundles of energy but is perfectly happy snuggling after a nice walk.

She hasn’t met any kids in our presence but she might be a good match since she is so gentle and doesn’t have an aggressive bone in her body. Her ideal home may have a male dog, if any, and loving owners that will continue training and advertise the pit bull breeds in a good light.

Elsa is being fostered in MA. Name:  Oliver
Breed:  Puggle
Age:  1 year
Sex:  Male

Oliver's Story
Oliver is an adorable Puggle that was originally found as a stray. After ending up in a shelter without an adoption program he made his way to an Underdog ResQ foster home in NH. Oliver is about a year old and he’s being fostered in a home with other dogs and a teenager.
He is learning "sit" and "stay". Whatever he does....walk on leash, go out on the run, walk around the house, sit (for 2 seconds), he does with nose to the ground and more energy than anyone should have! He is working on housebreaking and has already made lots of improvements.
Don’t forget that this little guy of 22 pounds is part Beagle so he howls when left alone or even if you leave the room, but stops as soon as he has company. Please read about his breed on http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/puggle.htm and make sure you like what you read. Beagles and Puggles are not a match for the average dog owner.
Oliver is a sweetheart but a bit timid. We don't think he would do well with young kids - just because he is a jumper when excited (we're working on that). He does not have a mean bone in his body. He does very well with other dogs, in fact, he follows his foster brother around and plays well in the snow with her. He chases his foster cat sisters, but that is just for play. They either hiss at him or run away. He does not try to harm anything and he is not aggressive at all. If your home has people around a good deal of the time he would not need another dog. But if he is going to be alone for long periods, then he would enjoy a doggie companion.
He has a voracious appitite but does not snap when approached while eating. He is very smart and curious. He is still very much a puppy so please make sure you are ready for some training!

Name:  Legend
Breed:  Pit Bull
Age:  8-10 months
Sex:  Male

Legend's Story
Legend is enthusiastic about life! This 8-10 month old pit bull mix was found as a stray and spent some time at the shelter before making his way to Underdog Resq. Legend is mostly black with white on his chest, neck, nose, and back paws. He weighs about 50 pounds. After a rough start to life, Legend is truly grateful for even the smallest of pleasures. He absolutely loves to go walking and greets everyone and everything in his path with a wagging tail. He also loves to go jogging and would make the perfect running buddy. Legend’s entire body wags at dinnertime and he is delighted to be given any toy or bone to play with. Belly rubs are another of Legend’s favorite activities. However, Legend takes the greatest pleasure of all in curling up on the couch with his foster family. He rests his head on someone’s lap and will be snoring away contentedly in no time!

Legend is very eager to please and learns new commands quickly. He is already an expert at sit, and is working on down, come, stay, and leave it. Legend sits and waits politely before being fed, putting on his leash, or taking a treat. He goes peacefully into his crate at night without crying or barking and sleeps until you come to let him out in the morning. He is making great strides with his housebreaking every day. Legend does not chew furniture, shoes, or anything that he is not supposed to. Even though he is very much an energetic puppy, he has excellent manners inside the house.

Legend would love to become the new member of an active family who will take him out for plenty of exercise. He has so much love to give that it might be overwhelming for small children, so Legend would do better in a home with adults or older children only. He is currently in a home with another dog but we think he’d love a home where he can be the canine king. Please don’t judge this sweet boy because of his breed. He loves all people that he meets and would love to find his place in a forever home!

Legend is being fostered in Boston. Name:  Gus
Breed:  Beagle
Age:  senior
Sex:  Male

Gus's Story
Gus came to us as a stray in mid-January of this year after spending some time in a shelter. We immediately realized his years did not reflect his attitude, he still thinks he’s a pup! This little beagle has so much love and energy it amazes us. Though he received the estimated 12 years from the doctors, we’re convinced he’s a bit younger so let’s just call him a senior (7 years plus). He could really use a family to that will give him a nice second half of his life!

What can we say about him, he’s a great dog. He’s got an awesome attitude and is constantly wagging his tail. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body.

Check out his wagging tail at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w29jGVCVMSQ

He’s totally into the other dogs in the foster family and even the cats. We find him trying to befriend and play with them all the time. And since the moment we brought him home, he’s been very sweet when handling him.

Gus has big beautiful floppy ears indicative of his breed, the Beagle. He absolutely loves to have his ears rubbed and kissed. He loves to nap in the dog bed he’s claimed after rooting around in the
backyard. And that brings us to his nose, this dog is a true hound.
He spent a better part of his first week at his foster home just smelling every bit of surface and object he could find. He finds the cats to have an utterly fascinating smell and spend much time trying to stuff his nose in their fur. Bring on the Beagle lovers!

Gus had little knowledge, as far as we could tell, in common obedience tasks, and he’s surprised us with how fast he has picked up those things. People say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks and he’s sure proving them wrong. Even after just a week he’s picking up basic obedience.

We think Gus has a lot of love to give anyone and is simply a great and lovely dog and is just waiting for his perfect home.

Name:  Sophie
Breed:  Pit Bull
Age:  2 years
Sex:  Female

Sophie's Story
Sophie is 40 pound package of love and affection and has a beautiful blue/grey coat. Found as a stray north of Boston where she spent about a month in a shelter, Underdog Resq stepped in and she is now living with a foster mom and cat. Sophie needs to gain some weight but she has boundless energy outside, power walking the bike path and hiking in the fells. She is wonderful on her leash and friendly to all 2 and 4 legged friends she meets. She is being fostered in a home with a cat that she can hear but is slowly being introduced to at this time. A ride in the car is always a welcome activity for this little girl, and she is very well behaved and sneaks in a kiss to whomever is in the front seat.

While she is a very good athlete, Sophie loves to cuddle on a chair, sofa or bed and wags her tail at just about everything. She is wiggly and very friendly, and while she has been in a foster home for just a week (admitted January 15), she has not had one accident in the house and gladly goes into her crate at night and when left alone.

Sophie is eagerly working on her commands and is learning to be very patient with her sits and stays. Toys do not seem to be of importance to her, but she has an excellent appetite and loves her food, but has learned to sit until she is asked to eat.
While she is very good with children and has interacted with 2 to 10 year olds, she tends to jump, but she is learning to be gentle with her approach.

If you think this beautiful girl would be a good match for you or you would like further information, please visit

 Common misconceptions
 before adopting a dog:
1. We’re getting Rex for the kids - they will do all the work.

Maybe for the first week or so, but most kids will slack off soon enough and the responsibility will fall on your laps. You are considered to be the owner because you are over the age of 21. If your kids do not walk Rex, then it is up to you that it gets done. As much as we talk to our kids about responsibility and as much as they agree to care for your new dog, we all know that sooner or later most kids will lose interest or get tired.

If you can positively answer these questions and concerns, then you may be ready to adopt Rex.
